Survived the Week & Weekend

Mallory picked up a nasty virus and was sickly all weekend. Fever, coughing up gunk, runny & stuffy nose... Poor kid. She is feeling better today- still has the symptoms, but no fever. Whew. Usually I read in bed at night, but I read such intense books sometimes that lately I have been just doing crossword puzzles to turn my mind off. Especially with the anxiety that a sick kid brings me- I don't need to be reading about father's suicides and mental illnesses, etc... Think I need some uplifting Chick Lit soon...or more crosswords. My hands are cracked and painful since I've been washing my hands like a lunatic for 2 days. I cannot get sick while Justin is in China.

Speaking of China- he is having a blast and totally wants to move there. JUST KIDDING!!!! He ate "duck skin 'tacos'" the other day... Yesterday he ate jellyfish which he described as crunchy and slimy at the same time. He thought it was some sort of vegetable and probably wouldn't have eaten it if he had known what it was before putting it in his mouth. Yesterday at lunch, they brought out a plate of eggs. Justin said they looked like hardboiled eggs. A woman they were with said they were a Nanjing specialty. Essentially they were steamed eggs that have baby chicks inside. His co-worker could not watch the Chinese men eat them and Justin barely saw the balled up chick inside...legs, body, head, beak. That, my friends, is NASTY.

My kids don't understand the depth of how cool it is to Skype with their dad who is in China. After school it is Justin's morning there- 15 hours apart right now, so got to chat before he got ready for the day. He "got to" try a new drink there- warm corn juice. He drank about half the cup before he was sick of it and his co-worker took one sip and that was enough for him. LOL Sounds kind of gross to me.

Today and yesterday we had 75 degree weather. The girls have set aside time themselves so they can play in the backyard before Ava has to be at school in the morning.

Justin will be leaving the country for China on Monday for 16 days.

Ava & Mallory have a birthday party to go to tomorrow.

I just finished a memoir about a woman's bi-polar. I can't imagine having to live with that illness.

Other than that life is pretty boring...

Justin guilted me into writing on here again. Why haven't I been? No time. Kids. House. Life. FaceBook... Facebook Rocks. BUUUT I will post some recent pictures from Ava's birthday. She had a really great 4 day celebration. Last Thursday was her class's Valentine's Day party. I brought special cupcakes and everyone sang Happy Birthday to her. Friday she and 7 friends spent an hour and a half here: http://www.pumpitupparty.com/co/wheat-ridge/home-p1q50.htm. Then we all came back to our house for lunch, games & cake and ice cream. Saturday was Valentine's Day...so we spent the day just hanging out. The girls got kids meals for dinner and I made a nice steak, potato & asparagus meal for Justin and myself. Sunday she turned SIX- 6! WOW. I cannot believe Ava is now 6. I still see her as 4 years old. When I asked her how it felt to be 6, she responded, "Grown up!" Oh boy!! I am in for it... Ava didn't get to walk in the ocean this year like she did on her last birthday, but at least no one was sick. Yay!

I added some pictures of the girls' room. Justin painted it pink for them. We moved their beds and cleaned (well of course the pictures don't reflect that!) and voila. Pink Princess Paradise. Now I just need some wallies.

Last night Ava whacked her face on the dresser- they were supposed to be going to bed, but were talking and goofing around on their beds in the dark. She has a bump and bruise next her her left eye. Ouch!! Then at dance today, Mallory bonked heads with another girl and has a red mark right by HER left eye.

It snowed. Most of it has melted. It might snow again. Who knows.
